VISAS
No es necesaria para los ciudadanos de la mayoría de los países de América y Europa Occidental. Los ciudadanos de Bolivia, Ecuador y Chile no necesitan pasaporte ni visa para ingresar hasta determinadas regiones del Perú. En estos casos el plazo autorizado de permanencia es de 90 días (prorrogables por la autoridad migratoria). Consulte con la representación diplomática peruana en su país para obtener mayor información.
MONEDA
La moneda oficial del Perú es el Nuevo Sol (S/.) dividido en 100 céntimos. Circula en monedas de 5, 10, 20 y 50 céntimos, 1, 2 y 5 Nuevos Soles y en billetes de 10, 20, 50, 100 y 200 Nuevos Soles.
El dólar norteamericano es aceptado en la mayoría de locales comerciales, restaurantes y estaciones de servicio al cambio del día.
La gran mayoría de establecimientos acepta las tarjetas de crédito más conocidas: Visa, Master Card, Diners y American Express. El uso de travellers checks tiene limitaciones, consultar en el establecimiento si son aceptados.
Al hacer efectivo un pago con tarjeta de crédito, cerciórese de pagar sólo el monto del servicio o bien adquirido.
ENERGIA ELECTRICA
220 voltios. La mayoría de hoteles de cuatro y cinco estrellas ofrecen energía eléctrica de 110 voltios.

TELEPHONE HEALTH MATTERS DROGAS Está terminantemente prohibido transportar drogas, si lo hace será detenido y encarcelado. No acepte llevar en su equipaje paquetes de personas desconocidas bajo ninguna circunstancia. BANKS Banking hours in Peru are normally from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, most banks open for the public half day on Saturdays. In the streets of the main cities there are teller machines installed by the different banks. MONEY EXCHANGE It is recommended that money should be exchanged in hotels, banks and authorized money exchange offices (Service hours: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., approximately). The exchange rate against the US Dollar is variable. Inquire before changing your money. For exchanging other currencies inquiry at money exchange offices TRANSPORT Inter-provincial buses The inter-provincial bus service covers all destinations in Peru, except for certain cities in the Jungle. Inquire into the comfort available depending on the fare paid; and whether or not the service is non-stop. Taxis and public transportation It is recommended that taxis should be from taxi companies (which are requested by phone) or those authorized by the municipalities (in Lima they are painted yellow and some of them have a lighted sign over the roof). Taxi meters are not used in Peru, therefore the price must be negotiated before going into the taxi. Ask where you are staying about the average fares to your destination. No tips are normally given to taxi drivers. At airports, it is advisable to hire the services of taxis authorized by the management authority. Urban buses (the most economical alternative) are of the colors and numbers assigned for the specific route. Most of them travel long treks and they may turn out to be uncomfortable.
